Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president, and also holds the title of most powerful female officer in American history. She is a member of Congress and a former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
